Bike Touring Journals by Neil Anderson and Sharon Anderson Bicycle touring journals
October 18 Tuesday Bicycle touring from Robinsonville New Brunswick to St Leonard New Brunswick
We told Roger and Suzanne that we had slept in a toilet and were glad for it. Suzanne's response was "No shit!"
We awoke to frost on the grass. Ice had formed on the side of the tent where our breath had condensed. It didn't seem nearly as cold last night without the wind though. The bike riding is a lot nicer too. If you decide to do a bicycle tour in the fall, take a lot of warm clothes.
We cycled up and down hills all day. We are about five kilometres from St Leonard in a camping area. We are the only ones in the closed park. It sure is peaceful without motorhome generators and kids screaming.
The days are short. It was 9:30 AM before we were warm enough to ride, and then by 5:30 PM it is beginning to get dark. By 6:15 PM it is dark. We started making supper at 6 PM and were tucked in our bicycle touring sleeping bags an hour later. Sharon says the routine is wearing her down. We pack, ride, unpack. We are doing lots of time in the saddle. We spend about seven hours a day pedalling our fully loaded touring bicycles.
The forest here is planted row upon row. There is lots of logging again. Bicycle touring was good today though. It was a beautiful clear blue sunny sky with a high of 11ยบ C. We saw a red apple tree with no leaves. There were just red apples clinging to the branches like ornaments. We saw a yard that was decorated for Halloween with ghosts and a graveyard. One of the tombstones read "Jason RIP" They have a great sense of humour here. People wave again too, as we pedal by on our fully loaded touring bicycles.
